What to Do First
Your first order of business is damage
control! Go to the Letters page. You will find a partial
list of the letters in the kit.
Copy the first letter. Fill in the
information and send a copy to all credit reporting agencies (CRAs). Get the list of
the three credit reporting agencies and make sure you call and
write them!
Ask each of the big three credit bureaus
(CRAs) for a copy of your credit report and go over it very closely.
- Order the complete kit so you
have all the tools and knowledge you need. This will be a battle, but you dont need
to fight it alone! Together well take you from Victim To Victor!!
- Contact all credit grantors: department stores, utility
companies, credit-card issuers, etc. with whom you believe your name may have been used
fraudulently. Again, contact them by phone and by letter.(See
Letter Page; Letter 2-A in Identity-Theft Kit)
- Carefully monitor your mail and credit-card bills for
evidence of new fraudulent activity.
- Start a log of all your contacts with authorities and
financial institutions, including those you've already contacted in Steps 1-4. (A sample
log is included when you Order the complete kit)
- Report the incident to the police or sheriff in the area
where the crime was committed.
- DONT BE INTIMIDATED!
You are not alone. Not only are there plenty of fellow victims (about 500,000 per year!)
but you can fight back without an expensive lawyer!
